You’ll notice that our newsletter looks a little different this month (if you’d like to subscribe to our monthly newsletter, click here!). We changed a few things to highlight that October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We are proud to partner with domestic violence awareness groups including Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV) and The Arizona Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith & Family as they work to end domestic violence in Arizona Communities.
Domestic violence affects people of all ages, races, religions, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. The most urgent need that survivors in Arizona have is for safe, affordable and accessible housing. Many survivors don’t leave abuse relationships not because they don’t want to, but because they can’t afford to. Financial abuse and control happen in many cases making it all more difficult to leave the relationship safely. At House of Refuge, 50% of our residents in the House of Refuge community identify as being victims of domestic violence. We work with our residents through our Employment & Education Center where they can seek assistance in finding a higher paying job, apply for college or certificate programs, and attend family budget workshops. We hope that the services we provide here and can help all of our residents gain financial stability in a safe, stable environment. #EndDVinAZ
