Make a Strategic Year-End Gift
With a year-end gift, you can help House of Refuge, and also benefit yourself and your loved ones at tax time.
Savvy giving options include:
Giving from your retirement account: If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) of any amount up to $108,000 directly from your IRA to House of Refuge. This gift can count toward your required minimum distribution and may reduce your taxable income.
Giving appreciated stock or other assets: Donating appreciated assets like stocks, bonds, or mutual funds can allow you to avoid capital gains taxes and potentially receive a full fair-market-value charitable deduction.

Ways to Give
Donor Advised Funds (DAF)
Give from Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)
To avoid this penalty, you can donate your RMD to House of Refuge. Qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) won’t be added to your taxable income for the year, potentially saving you money in taxes.
Learn more about RMDs and charitable donations here.
If you want to direct a portion of your RMD as a charitable donation to House of Refuge, tell your financial advisor/IRA custodian, or email info@houseofrefuge.org.
House of Refuge’s tax ID is 86-0662244. Distributions can also be mailed to:

Gift from an IRA
A gift from an IRA is a powerful tool that can help you support causes you care about while also providing potential tax benefits. It’s a strategic way to make a meaningful contribution during your lifetime. Email info@houseofrefuge.org for more information.
Gift of Stock
The benefits of this type of gift include:
- When you donate appreciated stock that you’ve held for more than one year, you can avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value. This can result in a larger donation to the charity and a bigger tax deduction for you.
- By donating stock directly, both you and the charity can benefit from the full value of the asset without the tax burden, potentially making your donation more impactful.
- Donating stock can simplify your giving, especially if you hold a diverse portfolio of appreciated assets. It can also be an efficient way to donate significant sums without affecting your cash flow.
